First, forgive my English ... it's pure Google Translation. I am a ancient user of your aircrafts for quite a few years. And DC3 from the beginning ... it's a fantastic airplane and you've done a great job. Nevertheless, while I often use your Rutan LonEZ, for example, I have not used the DC3 for quite some time. Why ? It is a detail but it excites me so much that I can not continue to keep it for me: he speaks !
I am now an old timer and my two parents were in the French Armée de l'Air. I flew in several planes in my youth, as a passenger on a DC3 from the BAN of Nimes. VIP passenger, in the cockpit, because the pilot was my father's best friend. And I guarantee you that there was no synthetic voice in this plane ... besides, it did not exist. If my father had heard the plane speak to him, he would certainly have come down to demolish him by mass, believing in a form of demonic possession.
This opinion is only mine, of course, and certainly does not question the quality of your great project. But it arouses great rewards from me ... because I can not use the plane without wanting to do like my father and it would demolish my Mac! In fact, I wanted to compliment you more than reproach you, I hope it feels through the ambiguity of my words and my poor english ?
Bests regards,
Gilles

Hi Gilles Thanks you for reaching out! I've read your post up here, very interesting indeed! Now for the "voice"- the only two sentences which are "spoken" in the cockpit are: "Engaging Autopilot/Autopilot disengaged" "Tail wheel is locked/Tail wheel is unlocked" These voices are engineered so it would not sound "synthetic", but will sound as if a crew-member (the other pilot) is talking in the internal microphone system while moving these two switches. The reason for this is simply to allow a confirmation of these two specific actions, since there is no other confirmation existing other than the switches themselves. I was a DC-3/C-47 pilot myself, and usually, these switches are being operated following a checklist or other crew-members coordination (pilot/co-pilot). So I've decided to insert these two spoken sentences as a feedback, because once we hear "Tail wheel is locked", it enters our brain. Like in real world operation. Now, there are several 3rd party checklist plugins (not part of the DC-3 but add-ons which can be added and used) which has a comprehensive voice-over for the checklists. These are also quite normal as the cockpit work in real life is always involving reading and confirming SOP (Standard Operating Procedures). So..these synthetic voices are not a "system induced" announcements, but to be considered as a crew-member reading or confirming Standard Operating Procedures. I hope that my answer is useful for you! Thank you very much for your feedback and inputs!
