Hi, I am a new owner of a VSL DC-3 and just getting things set up. 2 questions to start: - How do I connect my joystick to the tail wheel for taxiing? I do not have foot pedal, yet.
- Does an e-checklist exist for this DC-3?
I am sure more will come up. Thanks for reading and hopefully replying to my query. Den

Hi there! Thank you for reaching out! The DC-3 is not equipped with ground steering for the tail-wheel (both the real aircraft and the VSKYLABS one). On taxi, you use differential braking, while the tail-wheel is free (castor-wheel). Sometimes, differential power may be required as well. Before takeoff, the landing gears is being locked in a straight position. Then, steering the aircraft during the takeoff run is done with differential braking (or no braking) and rudder inputs. The VSKYLABS DC-3 however, is equipped with a 'Novice' mode, which allows you to steer the tail-wheel as if it had ground steering. Read page #30 in the included manual to read more about it, and to see how to enable and disable it. I assume that you have some kind of rudder control axis (not pedals, but maybe a twisting stick or other solution). The VSKYLABS DC-3 (and X-Plane) are set to identify when you are using *rudder only*. In such a case, when you are using the rudder, as you add rudder input, X-Plane will translate it to differential braking as well, and it will cause the aircraft to turn, as if you are using actual differential braking. In the 'novice mode' that I mentioned, the rudder axis is being used to steer the tail-wheel. Checklists - No embedded e-checklists, but there may be various user-based e-checklists for the VSKYLABS DC-3/C-47, best place to find them is at the X-Plane.org Let know if you have additional questions!
