New to VSL forum. Flt Sim user since C64 days. Been with X-Plane about 6 months from long time FS2004/FSX user. Both are still on my PC. No comparison to XP-11
Just got the R66 and thus far really like it. Never took to helos in the MicroSoft sims as they never flew correctly to me. Back in the mid 60's I was a RW
helo pilot with USN. Flew Kaman H2s for SAR in SE Asia war games and Boeing H-46s for Vert Rep in SE Asia. Last time I piloted a real helo was in Oct 1969.
My favorite XP aircraft is the C-47/DC-3. Have VSLs and another brand. Belong to DC3Airways with almost 900 DC-3/C47 hrs logged with them, nearly all with FS2004 & FSX.
Spent several hours today with the VSL R66. All over the sky (and ground) at first. Slowly - very slowly starting to come back. I did try electric RC helos which turned out a
complete failure for me. Using a Saitec joystick at the moment. Use one throttle for collective, the other for throttle, twist grip not used as I have pedals.
Bound and determined to learn to fly this thing. I know IRW it takes time to learn to fly a real one. Feel the flight modeling in XP is good on the helos I've tried so that is encouraging.
Repair shop should have my R66 rebuilt by now so heading back to the flight line to give it another go.
BTW I'm currently using the R66 in XP11.50b6, experimental settings with all joystick calibrations set to zero. It works great as far as I can see, for one who just started flying the R66.
Have read other heli forums some folks cut/remove the centering spring on their joystick. Any of you done that?
Looking fwd to this and hope activity picks up on the VSL forum.
